Abstract

Tax avoidance is a strategy firms use to manage their tax obligations by leveraging provisions in tax law. While it may improve tax efficiency, it can also create agency conflicts, information asymmetry, and reputational risks that shape investors’ perceptions of a firm's value. This study examines how tax avoidance affects firm value and explores the role of tax service utilization as a moderator. The research adopts a quantitative approach, using secondary data from annual reports and financial statements of manufacturing firms listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) from 2021 to 2024. The sample comprises 114 firms, selected through purposive sampling, yielding 456 firm-year observations. Data analysis uses panel regression and Moderated Regression Analysis (MRA). The findings indicate that tax avoidance has no statistically significant effect on firm value. Additionally, tax service utilization does not moderate the relationship between tax avoidance and firm value. These results imply that investors prioritize fundamental performance and corporate governance over tax management strategies when evaluating firm value. This research contributes to the literature by examining the moderating influence of tax service utilization among manufacturing firms in Indonesia.
